Contributing an ECG to the pECGreview
Submissions will be reviewed to ensure that they transmit properly. Scheduling the distribution date of your ECG will depend on the other recent topics but generally within 1-2 months.
Who can contribute?
Contributions are accepted from all participants. Please contribute an ECG that you think would be interesting/beneficial to other participants.
Please message us at:

Pediatric ECG Review (pECGreview) is a web-based, ECG of the week style program to enhance the ECG reading skills of pediatric cardiology fellows and other trainees and faculty. Developed at UTHSC, and now administered by Johns Hopkins, it is available to all pediatric cardiology training programs. Use this link if you would like to participate in pECGreview:
https://mrprcbcw.hosts.jhmi.edu/redcap/surveys/?s=PKWKAAJCKWEREPKM
What is pECGreview? Like many programs, we have used an "ECG of the week" approach as a supplement for training our fellows to read ECGs. We have created a web-based app using a secure REDCap survey platform to improve that process. The participants receive an email each Monday with a link to an ECG and text boxes to enter their interpretation. A follow-up email on Friday provides our interpretation and comments. A local faculty facilitator recieves a weekly report of the fellows responses so that they can provide feedback as appropriate. Fellows are encouraged to review any questions they have with their facilitator/faculty. More than 40 training programs and 500 participants are now using our app.
This is an example of the pECGreview format:History: 11 year old boy undergoing pre-operative evaluation before tonsillectomy. He has no history of cardiorespiratory symptoms and is otherwise healthy.
Final interpretation, as you would sign in the patient's chart:
Normal/minor observations/borderline
Abnormal
Urgent/requires immediate follow-up
This is an example of a weekly report to the fellowship program director, general cardiologist, electrophysiologist or other facilitator.
Frequently Asked Questions:How much does it cost? There is no charge for pECGreview.
Can other team members participate? Yes.
Is it secure? pECGreview is run on the REDCap platform. REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. What PHI data (personal identifiers) is collected? We do not ask for any personal information except a current email address. The emails are kept in our secure REDCap database and are not used for any purpose except 1) to send the participants the ECG links and response links and 2) to identify their ECG reading in the report that is sent to the facilitator weekly. Participant specialty and stage of training is requested during the registration process. No other PHI data is collected. What levels of participation are available? 1) Limited : The group facilitator provides the registration link to your fellows. No other commitment is required but discussion with the fellows is encouraged. 2) Full: The group facilitator provides the registration link to your fellows. Each Thursday you will receive a report of the readings by each of your fellows and you commit to providing them with feedback on their readings when educationally appropriate, at your discretion. 3) Contributor: In addition to providing feedback as above, you commit to annually contributing 5 ECGs with interpretation and commentary, and critically reviewing 5 ECGs currently in the program to improve their accuracy and educational content. All contributions will be acknowledged. When are responses/reports sent? Individual responses to participants are sent on Fridays at 9 AM (Central). If you choose to be a Full participant, a summary of all your participant responses (that only you receive) is sent on Thursdays at 4 PM (Central). The summary report that you receive includes the participant's emails so that you can identify those that need individual attention.
About Us:Pediatric ECG Review (pECGreview) is an on-line tool for improving ECG reading skills. The project was developed by UTHSC/Le Bonheur Children's Hospital pediatric electorphysiologists Karine Guerrier, DO, MPH, and Glenn Wetzel, MD, PhD. It is now administered through Johns Hopkins. Please do not reproduce any of these materials without written permission from pECGreview.
